So I'm in Alaska Right Now...

I'll keep this one short (I promise). Last Monday I showed up to work and was setting up my laptop when my boss walks over to me with a cell phone to his ear. He really qucikly asks me about my weekend and then about whether I've ever been to Alaska before. I hadn't, and told him as much. He didn't say anything for the longest time. I kind of already knew what to expect, but asked anyway, "Should I be preparing for a trip to Alaska?" He responded with a simple "Maybe." and left it at that. He told me if it I did end up going that it would be a short trip. Probably just a week or two tops, and then back out to Hawaii to telework my time away. That is not how things turned out.

I'm not quite sure how it happened, but apparently the original plan extended from two weeks, to two months. This all happened over the course of the next three days and nothing was actually finalized until Thursday evening. I spent the next two days trying to get my affairs in order and prepare for the trip. As of Thursday night, I had minimal cold weather clothes--I'm living in Hawaii, cut me some slack--my folks were (and still are) flying to Hawaii to see me in May and can't change their tickets, and I just got everything unpacked and setup in my new apartment. However, miracles of miracles, by Sunday afternoon I was ready to fly out to Alaska. I am nothing if not flexible.

I honestly expect to enjoy this experience. I always wanted to live in Alaska, albeit when I was a good bit younger. I generally operate better in cold weather, and it'll be kind of nice to have the two hardest to reach states checked off my list. From what I've seen so far, there isn't really too much to do out here, but the outdoors activities should be a blast. I'll post some photos I took from the plane ride over here, but in the mean time I have work tomorrow (I only arrived on-site this morning) and need to hit the hay.

Finally, if anyone happens upon this blog and notices images of frozen tundra posted all over the place, no, Hawaii has not frozen over. I'm just constantly in a state of locational flux. Peace out.
